A Colorimetric Method for Determination of Serum Chloride.

چکیده
HAVE INSTITUTED a colorimetric chloride procedure which has been in use for 3 years in our laboratory and has met with great success. This colorimetric method is based on a procedure used in automated syStems* (2, 3). It is extremely simple, quite accurate, and gives highly reproducible results even in the hands of student technicians. Those laboratories not having access to a chloridometer or automated systems, or even those not wanting to burden their automated systems with more work, may find this method suitable for their needs. Basically, the method consists of the addition of chloride ions to a solution of mercuric thiocyanate and ferric nitrate. The chloride ions upset an equilibrium established between the latter two salts, thereby allowing the formation of a brown ferric thiocyanate complex which is quantitatively proportional to the amount of chloride added.

Objective: Chloride is the major plasma anion. There are several methods available for the determination of serum chloride levels. Unfortunately these methods are sometimes not available in the urgent setting where values are needed. Here we describe...
متن کاملColorimetric determination of serum 5'-nucleotidase without deproteinization.
We present a sensitive colorimetric determination of 5'-nucleotidase based on the measurement of liberated phosphate by reaction with stannous chloride/molybdenum blue. No protein precipitation is required. The method is simple, sensitive, economical, and easy to use, and involves relatively stable reagents.

Phenylketonuria (PKU) is an autosomal recessive disorder, which is characterized by severe mental retardation, microcephaly and seizures. The symptoms of this disease can be prevented if detected soon after birth. Therefore, blood Phenylalanine (Phe) measurement is essential for the early diagnosis, treatment and dietary monitoring of PKU patients. The goal of this research was to introduce a r...

A comparison of two colorimetric procedures for the determination of serum glutamic oxaloacetic acid (SCOT) showed that both the dinitrophenylhydrazine and diazonium salt colorimetric assay procedures have good precision and reproducibility acceptable to most clinical laboratories. Babson’s diazonium salt procedure (3) definitely shows greater precision in the important borderline range of valu...
متن کاملChitosan Capped Silver Nanoparticles as Colorimetric Sensor for the Determination of Iron(III)
A selective, simple and low-cost method for the colorimetric determination of Fe3+ ions based on chitosan capped silver nanoparticles (Chit-AgNPs) was presented. Chitosan is a cationic polyelectrolyte and possesses amino and hydroxy groups which make it widely used as a capping agent for Ag NPs. The synthesized chitosan capped silver nanoparticles with excellent colloidal stability were charact...
